In the office this morning I was going over pawnbroking in the news. I do this occasionally to stay on top of what's happening in the industry and also to spot trends. But sometimes even I am just blown away by a pawn shop story. This morning is a fine example of that.
That's because I came across a story about a quick thinking pawn shop manager in Orangeburg South Carolina. David Marshall, manager of the Broughton Pawn Shop, notified police after a customer brought an artillery shell in the shop for identification. That's right - I said an artillery shell. Turned out to be a 105 mm howitzer.
I can't make this stuff up - I don't need to. I even put it on my Pawnonomics blog.

And that's the point of my brief message to you today. You have something in common with every other pawn broker on the planet. Stories. Lots of them. Incredible ones. Stories that would seem unbelievable to nearly everyone except a pawnbroker. I've decided to do something about that. I'm collecting them and putting them in a new book.
You can find the whole story about the new book here: http://pawnshopstory.com/
I hope you will consider becoming a part of this groundbreaking publicity and PR Project for the pawnbroking industry. I'm already scheduling interviews and have one this afternoon. So if you would like to be a part of it don't delay. Let me put your story in a book.
By the way, it's probably a good thing that Dave Marshall was a former Marine artillerist and didn't get blown away by his own story. And in case you're wondering, yes. I'm contacting him to share his story in the book.
