I spent part of yesterday afternoon on the telephone with one of my business coaches, and he had me do a simple exercise that I found really interesting. Seeing this is the beginning of a new decade on our calendar, I think you may benefit from it. Try it just for fun.
Imagine where you were at 10 years ago - early January, 2000. I'm not talking about where you were at physically. I'm talking about where you were at successfully, in your career - and in your life. Can you picture it? It's not that difficult - the beginning of Y2K. When you have that clear picture, compare it to where you are at in your life right now.
If you're like most people - there's been some pretty big changes over the past decade.
Some good - some bad. Changes well planned for - and also changes that completely blindsided you. Things you had control over - and things that were entirely out of your control. But the important thing is there were changes. Change is inevitable. So now that you're looking at where you're at right now, take a minute to imagine where you would like to be 10 years from now. January, 2020. Don't know? Let me tell you why you should.
You should because if you do not have a clear picture of where you want to be in the future, life has a tendency to play out spontaneously and haphazardly. Do you think the last pawn loan customer that you wrote today had a clear picture of planning to be broke? Of course not. But if you do not have a clear picture of where you intend to go, arriving there is doubtful.
But you will certainly arrive someplace - most likely where you do not choose to be.
So take a little time out this month and give some serious thought to where you would like to be in January 2020. Be creative, and shoot high. But also make it realistic. Because if you can get this clear picture of where you wish to be 10 years from now in your mind, it makes it that much easier to turn it into a reality. You may be shocked at how much you can truly achieve.
Members of the Pawn Shop Performer(tm) http://www.pawnshopperformer.com/ coaching program aren't the least bit shocked. They have come to learn how much success they can achieve in their career and in their life by working at a pawn shop. This may well be the decade that you decide to be the most successful pawnshop employee you can possibly be.
