Like Giving Birth

By Stephen Krupnik | January, 28, 2010

On the road yesterday, I spent half of the day at one of my client's pawn shops. Sitting down and reviewing his plans with him for 2010, I almost felt like I was giving birth. What? That's right - but not to a baby. Giving birth to another pawn shop. Let me explain. This pawnbroker purchased the Pawn Shop Advisor(tm) http://www.pawnshopadvisor.com/main.cfm coaching program this summer as soon as it was released.

He's currently going through the program for the second time, and adding to his notepad the systems he wishes to try in his store. He's been experiencing some pretty rocksolid results with the ones he's already implemented. I must admit, I'm quite proud of him. He's not exactly a new kid on the block, but yet he's been very willing in his pawnshop to implement and test what he's learning in his program.

When he originally got his program, he also purchased the Pawn Shop Performer(tm) http://www.pawnshopperformer.com/ coaching program for one of his best employees. This employee took the program and himself very seriously and is achieving some significant results. What kind of results? Results beyond even his own expectations - he's getting his own store next year.

Okay, maybe it isn't quite like giving birth. How would I know anything about that? But the fact is, as a result of what this pawnbroker has learned in these programs, he has chosen to expand his business and open a new store. Of course, this is the point were the FTC would like me to say "results are not typical." They're not. But only because this is not your typical pawnbroker.

He has a vision of what he wants his business to be and he's not scared to go after it. It makes me very proud to play a small role in his future success. But the message I would like to leave you with today is this. This pawnbroker has a vision - a plan - he knows where he wants to take his pawnbroking career. So my question to you today is; DO YOU? This is not designed to be an easy question to ask yourself.

Take your time with it. Sometime over the coming holidays, take a few moments to imagine what would make your pawnshop business or career ideal to you. I'm not talking about giving birth as with this client of mine. These were his plans and most likely you will not have nearly as aggressive an agenda as he. Just envision how you could position yourself in our industry to be the best suited for you.

Because once you can actually visualize where you choose to be in your profession and career, you can then formulate a plan to get you headed in exactly that direction. And if by chance I can somehow play a part in the future plans of yours - a small role with my programs - well, again, that would make me very proud. Enjoy a healthy and prosperous holiday season - but do it with a plan.

In Commitment to your Success,
Stephen Krupnik

P.S. I certainly did not intend to offend any lady pawnbrokers out there with the giving birth statement. You gals are amazing. If guys had to go through what you do, well, let's just say we wouldn't have over population anywhere on the planet.
