This morning I'm catching up on pawnshop news in the office before heading to Detroit for the Thanksgiving holiday. I certainly found one piece to be thankful for. A new pawnshop employee at cashNmore pawnshop in Texas recently left his job. In handcuffs. It appears that he started the holiday sale at the pawnshop a bit early. The deals were out the back door, not the front.
Whatta knucklehead. He'd only been working there a few months and he already managed to swipe over ten grand in merchandise which he sold out in the parking lot or at his home. So - you may be asking yourself, what do I find to be thankful for in news like this? Think about it. Even though this young man freely chose to flush any possibility of a successful pawnbroking career right down the stool, the good news is he was caught quickly.
That's good news for the pawn shop owner - and that's great news for the pawnshop employees who were forced to work with this idiot. Can you imagine the negative crap pouring off of this guy - ugh - he had to be horrible just to be around. And that's the reason why I'm telling you about this thieving kid. Can you imagine what it was like to work with him?
Because you and I both know that at least occasionally when working in the pawnshop there is no way that you can completely avoid people with bad attitudes, negative energy, lying and thieving ways, and victim mentalities. You may occasionally experience this from your customers, your coworkers, or even your boss for that matter.
I'm sure you realize this. But what you may not realize is that these people - you know, the ones who are having a horrible day and want you to join them - these people may walk out of the store, but they leave some of the negative crap behind. And if you allow it to, this negative garbage will stick to you like glue. So what do you do? Have a little holiday sale of your own.
Get rid of it - and do it in a hurry. Scrape it off and throw it away. Because if you allow it to stay with you, carrying around the negative energy of others, it will bring you down in a hurry. And here's what's most important. You may not even realize what's bringing you down. Maybe it's just the 20th person today pawning their wedding ring to feed their child. Could be.
This is so important in your career that I go into the subject of various ways to release negative energy in detail in the Pawn Shop Performer(tm) http://www.pawnshopperformer.com/ coaching program. I've been practicing this for many years because I always like to go to work at the pawnshop with a smile and also leave with one. You know what? That's not easy.
But it is however necessary for you to be a highly successful pawnbroker. So during the Thanksgiving holiday, be grateful for the opportunities you have working in a pawnshop. Be thankful that you are much smarter than this idiot in Texas who's probably spending the holiday in jail. And to be aware that negative energy does not leave when the negative people do.
