This past weekend I had the distinct pleasure to attend the Gridiron Greats http://www.gridirongreats.org/ Hall of Fame Induction Dinner in Detroit. This charitable event honored numerous retired NFL players who have done exceptional things both on and off the football field. Many of the players inducted had some pretty amazing career statistics.
It was a thrill for me to meet so many of these legends in one evening and I believe the thing that impressed me the most was the competitive nature of these gents. Not just on the playing field but long after they had retired from professional sports. Always striving to get better - constantly looking for additional ways they can be successful in their life.
In the game of football your success is measured mostly by your statistics. And according to these gentlemen - so is your success measured in life.
So what does this have to do with you - being an employee working at a pawn shop. Plenty. Allow me to ask you a simple question. What are your statistics? What I mean by this is how successful are you really in your career? Do you know your numbers? Are you keeping track?
If not you should consider doing so - and here is why.
Only by knowing your statistics - the percentage of pawn loans you close - your purchase numbers - the number and amount of sales you close - and your monthly and annual totals - will you have a reference point as to how successful you are as a pawn shop employee and how much you are improving over time. By knowing these numbers you will also be unleashing your own competitive nature - always striving to improve.
As one of the inducted NFL players told me last weekend "Steve, football has always been a highly competitive game. But the real competition is not the players on the other side of the ball. The real competition is with yourself." And that's the point I'm making to you today. Competing with yourself is an important part to your success both in your career and in your life.
But this competition is highly unlikely to happen if you're not keeping score.
Always keep track of your statistics in the pawn shop and always strive to do better. This will serve you well both in your pawn shop career and in your life. I provide you with hundreds of simple ways to do this in the Pawn Shop Performer(tm) coaching program http://www.pawnshopperformer.com/ because I know that by doing so you will become a more successful pawnbroker.
It's the reason why I created a program especially for you - the pawn shop employee. So if you choose to be the most successful pawnbroker you can be, you should also want to consider becoming a member of the Pawn Shop Performer(tm) http://www.pawnshopperformer.com/ coaching program. Who knows, maybe one day you will end up in the Hall of Fame.
